Rant: PPG color match screwed me on a 2023 F-150 in Denver

Mixed up a custom tri-coat for a customer's dented fender, looked perfect in the booth, but under the dealer lot lights it was way off. The metallic flake sat different, had to strip and redo it twice, cost me an extra 4 hours. Anyone else trust you their own mixing system more than the big brand formulas?

Man, that sucks! But honestly I bet it was the metallic flake orientation more than the color match itself. The way you spray it, how thick you lay it down, even the air pressure can make the flake sit different than the factory. Ive seen the same formula come out looking totally different depending on the gun setup. The big brands give you a starting point, but they dont know how your booth is gonna dry or what temp youre shooting at. You probably already know this, but I always do a test panel with the exact same settings I'll use on the car before I commit to the whole panel. Saves me from having to strip stuff down more than once.
