Shoutout to the guy who showed me the right way to mix clear coat hardener

I watched three guys at our shop last week just eyeball the ratio and their panels all came out cloudy. The tech sheet for the 'ProFinish 4500' says 4:1 by volume, not weight, and it makes a huge difference. Anyone else see this mess happen?

That "eyeball the ratio" thing is a special kind of confidence. It's like they think the chemistry changes because they've done it a bunch. I saw a guy wreck a whole hood on a classic car because he used the weight ratio from a different brand's can. The math in his head was solid, but the stuff in the gun was totally wrong.

Ugh, that's the worst. Seen it happen way too many times. Props to that guy for actually showing you the right way.

Yeah, the tech sheet is your best friend for that exact reason.

Exactly, and it's not just for paint. I read a forum post from a guy who mixed two-part epoxy for a boat repair without checking the sheet. He went by volume when the instructions called for weight. The stuff never fully cured, and he had to grind it all out. That tech sheet exists because someone already did the hard work of figuring out the right mix. Ignoring it is just asking for a redo.
