That body shop in Tulsa taught me to never trust a factory weld
Was down in Tulsa for a job last spring, patching up a 2018 F-150 that got rear ended. Pulled the bed off and saw the cab corner welds were half assed from the factory, just spot welds every 4 inches and some of them barely held. That one truck changed how I check every new rig now. I spent an extra hour grinding and re-welding spots that should have been solid from day one. has anyone else run into factory welds that bad on newer trucks, or did I just get lucky with a Friday build?
The spot weld spacing thing is real, but I think you might be overreacting a bit on the "factory weld" part. Those gaps are actually pretty standard for how automakers do cab corners, they're not meant to be structural welds like frame joints. Still sucks when you have to fix them, but I wouldn't call it a Friday build issue, more like a cost cutting thing across all the trucks.
