Warning: Our move to repair instead of replace quarter panels is costing us jobs.
Most shops around here just bolt on new panels because it's faster and clients don't complain. But all that metal ends up in the dump, and I think that's wrong. We spend extra time pulling dents and welding, which means we turn away two cars a month. Even so, keeping tons of scrap out of the landfill feels like the right call for our trade.

Can't believe you turn away actual work over this. That's two whole cars a month just gone. Shocked you'd take that hit when every other shop is bolting on new parts. Makes me wonder if the dump is really filling up with quarter panels, or if most of them get recycled anyway. Sounds like a tough way to run a business.

Actually, turning down that work is the whole point (like taraross gets now). The landfill bill isn't just a cost, it's a sign the system's broken. Fixing good parts instead of tossing them is how you build a real business, not just chase the next job.

Beth276, seeing that landfill bill changed my mind too.

My cousin's shop landfill bill last year changed my mind.
