Why does nobody talk about the motivational speaker disaster at our shop?
Our boss decided we needed inspiration, so he booked this speaker who usually talks to sales teams. The guy walked in and immediately slipped on some grease, almost landing in a paint tray. He recovered and started his talk, but he kept saying business terms that didn't fit in a garage. At one point, he tried to compare panel beating to closing deals, and we all just stared. When he asked for a volunteer to demonstrate 'active listening,' my coworker Jim pretended to fall asleep. The speaker got flustered and cut his session short. We felt bad but also couldn't help laughing. Now, 'motivational speaker' is code for any silly idea from management.

Sales talk in a garage? Never works. Jim faking sleep is hilarious.

Real talk from seasoned mechanics always inspired us more than corporate buzzwords.

Used to think the fancy words mattered, but now I see the straight talk is what actually gets things done.

I mean, when a mechanic just points at the problem and says it straight, that's what I remember. Corporate talk never really stuck for me.
