Stumbled on a stat about microfiber towels that blew my mind
I was reading a detailing blog and found out a single cheap microfiber towel can hold up to 8 times its weight in water. I always thought they were all the same, but now I'm wondering if I need to switch to higher GSM ones for better drying. Has anyone else checked the weight rating on their towels?

Oh man, that stat really made me stop and think too (I actually went and weighed some of mine on a kitchen scale... yeah, I'm that person). It's wild how much difference quality makes once you start paying attention (especially since I've got a stack of old cheap ones that barely soak up anything anymore). That whole GSM thing is definitely worth checking out, I switched to a mid-range set a while back and the drying time improvement was honestly pretty noticeable. Nothing worse than trying to dry a whole car with a towel that just pushes water around instead of actually absorbing it, right?

I gotta say Brian, I used to be pretty skeptical about those weight claims myself. I figured it was just marketing fluff. But after I picked up a pack of those cheap ones on sale last month and actually tested them against my old towels, I was surprised how much water they'd hold before feeling saturated. It changed my mind completely.
