That $60 pH neutral shampoo ruined my ceramic coating
I saw everyone raving about pH neutral soaps for coated cars so I switched from my regular car wash soap to this expensive one. Big mistake. After about 3 washes over 6 weeks I noticed the water beading was way weaker and the paint felt rough. Turns out that particular brand had some kind of wax additive that was masking the coating and actually stripping it down. I took it to a local detailer in Phoenix and he had to do a full polish and reapply the coating, cost me $350 total. I wish I had just stuck with the cheap stuff I was using before. Anyone else had a supposedly coating safe product mess up their paint? What brands are actually safe that you've tested for real?

Three washes in Arizona summer sun is probably when I saw the same thing happen on my old truck. The wax additive stuff is nasty because it beads great for a week, then the coating underneath is just gone. I stick with CarPro Reset now, it's pricey but it's truly just a soap, no gloss enhancers or wax in it. Also, check the pH on the label, most of the "coating safe" junk is still alkaline enough to eat away at it over time. And if your paint feels rough, that's not the soap stripping it, that's fallout bonding to the coating, a good iron remover will fix that without needing a full polish.
