Took me way too long to realize I was wiping in circles
I spent 2 years detailing my truck and always used circular motions on paint, figured that was just how everyone did it. Then a buddy who does paint correction watched me one afternoon and asked why I was buffing swirls into the clear coat. He showed me straight line passes with the microfiber and overlapping each stroke by half, the difference was night and day in the sunlight. Now I never do circles unless it's a wax applicator on glass, and I check my work with a cheap LED light from Harbor Freight. Anyone else have that forehead slap moment with something basic?

Did you ever check if your drying towels were leaving those marks too? I was doing straight lines on the paint but still saw hazing, turned out my drying routine was swirling the whole thing right after a wash. Switching to a dedicated drying towel with a patting motion instead of dragging fixed it completely. Also that LED trick is solid, I use one from the auto parts store and it catches stuff I swear I'd never see in normal garage light.
