Paid $1,150 to ship my dad's truck from Phoenix to Chicago in 2019, and it showed up with a cracked windshield
Back then I just went with the cheapest broker quote I could find ($1,150 when most others wanted $1,600+) and figured the savings were worth it. The driver called two days late, dropped it off at a Walmart parking lot in Cicero instead of my address, and there was a fresh crack across the windshield that nobody would claim. Was the extra $400 or so for the fancy enclosed carrier actually worth it, or did I just get unlucky with that one broker?
A crack across the windshield that nobody would own up to? That would have sent me through the roof. And dropping it at a Walmart parking lot in Cicero when you paid for delivery to your address is just wild. Two days late on top of all that, I can only imagine the phone calls you made trying to sort it out. The $1,150 versus $1,600 gap sounds small next to a windshield and a headache like that. For the record, cheaper brokers often just resell your job to whoever bids lowest, which is how you end up with a driver who does not care.
