Why does nobody talk about comparing auto transport quotes back in 2007 versus today?
Back in 2007 I shipped my Honda from Portland to Dallas and I called 8 different brokers over 3 days just to get quotes, and the prices were all within about $75 of each other. Last month I ran the same route through an online form and had 14 quotes in my inbox in under 10 minutes, with a $430 gap between the cheapest and most expensive. It blew my mind how much faster it is now, but honestly I kind of miss actually talking to a person who knew the carriers by name. Has anyone else noticed the cheap quotes online almost always get bumped up once they actually pick up your car?
I ran into the same bump up thing last year moving a car from Phoenix to Seattle. Called the broker who gave the cheapest online quote and he admitted the price would go up $150 once a driver actually signed on. Wound up going with a mid range quote from a smaller broker and it stuck exactly where he said it would. Paying a little more up front saved me the headache.
