Decided to skip that AI scheduling software for my plumbing crew
I had to choose between a $100 a month AI tool that books jobs automatically and just doing it myself on a whiteboard. I picked the whiteboard because I like knowing exactly where my guys are without some algorithm guessing. Turns out that saved me from a mess when a big storm hit Austin last March and I had to reroute three emergency calls in 15 minutes. Has anyone else passed on automation just to keep a handle on things yourself?

Good for you, too much tech just gets in the way when things get real.

Add a regular compass and a paper map to that kit @pat_moore, something that still works when your GPS dies or loses signal in a canyon. I keep a basic Garmin InReach for emergencies, but I've seen too many people freeze up when their phone battery hits zero and they've got no backup navigation skills. Those screens are great until they aren't, and by then you're just relying on luck instead of being prepared.

Hear me out though, sometimes having a GPS and a satellite messenger is the whole difference between getting home safe and becoming a rescue statistic when things actually go sideways.
