I just saw a report that 47% of all work tasks in my city could be automated right now with tech we already have.

That number hit me because I realized my own job, handling customer service tickets, is basically just following a script a bot could easily learn, so what do I actually bring to the table anymore?

You see this everywhere, from grocery checkouts to bank calls.

Yeah that "reading between the lines" part is the whole ball game. I see it with package delivery instructions or maintenance requests all the time, where the real issue is buried in three angry sentences. A system logs the complaint but misses the fear of a water leak or the frustration from three missed deliveries. That human guesswork is what we're paying for, not the button clicks.

Is that 47% number for real, or is it one of those stats that sounds scary but doesn't mean much? A bot can follow a script, but it can't actually care when someone is upset. Your job is probably way more about reading between the lines and calming people down than just the steps you take. That stuff is hard to put in a report.
