My boss in Denver told me our new quoting software will cut my crew from 5 guys to 2 next year.

He said the AI can measure roofs from satellite images now, so we don't need as many people for estimates. I used to think it was just for office jobs. Now I'm taking a welding class at the community college on Tuesdays, just in case. Anyone else in trades getting a backup plan ready?

Saw a self checkout at the hardware store last week, and the cashier was just standing there looking lost. It's everywhere now, not just desks. Good on you for the welding class, that's smart. My cousin's an electrician and he's learning solar panel install for the same reason. Feels like you gotta have a second skill in your back pocket just to stay afloat.

Exactly, @murray.cora, it's wild how fast that change happened. The cashier just standing there is the perfect image for it. Makes you wonder what happens to all those jobs long term. Is your cousin finding the solar training hard to get into, or are there a lot of programs for it now? Seems like the trades are scrambling to catch up with green tech but the path isn't always clear.
