My team's automation report said we saved 120 hours last month, and it freaked me out
I mean, I knew we were using more bots for data entry, but seeing that number in black and white really hit different. It was a report from our new process software, ZappFlow. That's 120 hours of work that just vanished, mostly from tasks my junior analysts used to do. It's great for the company's bottom line, but now I'm worried about what happens to those entry-level jobs. Has anyone else had a 'success' metric from automation that actually made them more nervous?

Totally get that. It's like the report made the future real all of a sudden. I'd be asking what new, more complex work those juniors are supposed to do now.

Wait, but isn't vague sometimes how new stuff actually starts?

Yeah, that "more complex work" part is the real kicker. In my experience, you have to push for specifics right away. Ask for a list of the new tasks or projects they have in mind. If they can't give you clear examples, it's just a vague idea that will fall apart. Get it in writing so there's a real plan, not just a feeling.
