The self-checkout at my store just ate a customer's $50 bill and the system said 'transaction complete'

Happened yesterday afternoon, right in the middle of a rush. The machine took the cash, the drawer didn't open, and the screen just thanked her for shopping. Our district manager said the new AI cash handling system 'learns from errors' and we can't override it without a 24 hour review. The customer had to leave without her change or her money. How is a machine that can't give back a fifty supposed to take my job? Has anyone else had a cash handling bot fail this badly?

Wait 24 hours for a review? That's insane! The machine already stole her money, now it's stealing her time too. This isn't learning, it's robbery.

Robbery is a pretty strong word for it.

Used to think the whole panic about AI was overblown. But seeing someone literally have to wait a full day to get their own money back because a machine messed up? That's a different thing. It's not just a bug, it's a system that treats your time and money like they're free for the taking. The whole thing about learning feels like an excuse to let the AI make mistakes without any cost to the company. It's the customer paying for their training data in cash and hours. This really flipped a switch in my head about how bad the power balance is here.

Sounds like the AI needs to learn how to give change first.
