Chatting with a retired A&P at the airshow in Oshkosh made me rethink my whole approach to intermittent faults.

It's amazing how often the best solutions come from listening to people with real, hands-on experience (not just the theory).

Wonder if we overcorrect sometimes and mistake stubbornness for wisdom. Plenty of folks with "real experience" just keep doing things the wrong way because it's all they know. Theory gives you a map to check if you're even in the right forest. The key is probably someone who can blend both, not just pick a side.

That line about "real experience" not being just theory... I get what you mean, but it sets up a false choice. The best hands-on people I know use theory all the time, they just don't call it that. It's the "why" behind the "how." An old-timer who can find a fault by sound is still using mental models, even if he never opened a textbook. Dismissing theory is like saying you don't need to know how an engine works to fix it, which only gets you so far.
