Factory crimp tool vs the $15 Amazon special on D-sub pins
I spent 12 years using the bench crimper at the shop in Dallas and figured the cheap hand tools were just for hobbyists. Picked up a generic frame with the proper dies for a side job and ran 200 pins through it last Saturday. Dead on every pull test. The difference was matching the wire gauge to the die exactly, not the price tag. Anyone else find the cheap versions hold up fine once you stop buying mismatched kits?

The die matching matters more than the brand, that's for sure.

Tried three different sets of dice for my last campaign and the cheap ones I almost tossed out performed the best. The edges were a little rough and the numbers were slightly faded, but they rolled so consistently that my players started calling them the "lucky set." Then I bought a fancy matching set from a big name brand and we had to stop mid-session because the d20 kept landing on the same low number no matter who rolled it. Swapped back to the ugly ones and everything evened out again. So yeah, matching the die to the system or the mood means way more to me than any logo on the box...
