Finally got the old Collins VHF-422A in the Cessna 172 to pass its full 50-hour check
For three weeks, it kept failing the modulation test, reading low by about 15%. I swapped the final amp, checked the coax, and nothing worked. Then I found a tiny bit of corrosion on the antenna base connector that I'd missed. Cleaned it up with some DeoxIT, and the next test was spot on. Anyone else run into a sneaky issue like that where the fix was way simpler than you thought?

Forget the radio, check the ground plane.

Man, does that ever sound familiar? Honestly, I've spent hours chasing a problem that turned out to be something so simple and dumb. It's always that one little thing you overlook because you're sure it's something bigger. Tbh, that feeling when you finally find it is a mix of relief and wanting to kick yourself. Good on you for sticking with it and finding that corrosion.
