Heads up on those new fiber optic testers from the big supplier
Had a unit fail on me mid job at a regional airport in Texas last Tuesday. It was a brand new model, only out of the box for about two weeks. The thing just went dark and wouldn't power back on, right in the middle of a critical avionics bay check. I had to scramble and dig out my old light meter to finish the sign off. The whole delay added nearly three hours to my shift. Has anyone else run into issues with these new testers, or did I just get a bad one?

Tell me about it... had the exact same thing happen on a campus fiber run last month. Brand new unit, worked fine for a few tests then just died like a brick. Mine was still under warranty, but the whole return process took forever and left me hanging. Makes you wonder if they rushed these out the door without proper testing. I'm back to using my old reliable gear for anything important now.

Warranty returns are the worst kind of waiting game. They probably did rush them, just to hit some sales target. Classic move. Now we all get to be their unpaid beta testers. My backup unit is older than some of the interns, but it still turns on every time. Makes you miss when stuff was just built to last.
