I finally realized my DMM lead placement was causing all those phantom voltage readings
Been chasing intermittent faults on a Cessna 172 for two days last month, pulling my hair out because the multimeter kept showing 5 volts where there shoulda been nothing. Turns out I was holding the probes wrong, pressing too hard and bridging the pin to the adjacent ground. A senior guy walked by and just looked at me for a second and said "you're shorting it with your thumb." I was literally sweating onto the probe tips too. Felt like an idiot. After 8 years in this trade I had been doing that on tight panels and getting false positives. Has anyone else had a basic habit like that catch them off guard after years of doing it the same way?
