Old pitot static tester finally talked back to me

We pulled a 1984 IFR 600 out of storage last week after a younger guy asked why we still trust a machine older than he is. He laughed when I said the new digital stuff just gives you numbers, but that old box makes you think about what the numbers mean. Anyone else still hanging onto legacy test gear because it makes you a better tech in a way the screens dont?

Funny thing is, I still reach for my old beat up multimeter before the fancy clamp meter half the time. That 1984 box probably has more miles on it than my truck, and honestly, it’s taught more apprentices than I have. Plus, when it finally does die, I’m gonna have to actually do the math in my head again, and that’s a scary thought.
