Splurged $200 on a fancy test probe set and it's already paying off

I was getting tired of chasing intermittent faults with my old beat up probes, so I finally bought a set of those gold plated ones with the super sharp tips... cost me about $200 from a local supplier. Two days later I'm tracing a weird voltage drop on a 737 avionics bay and those tips grabbed onto the cramped pins like a dream. Would've taken me twice as long to find the break with my old gear, or I'd have mangled a pin and really been in trouble. Anyone else find that spending a bit more on connectors or testing gear actually saves you time in the long run?

Hey, I feel you on this one... sometimes the right tool just makes the job less of a headache. I had a similar moment with a cheap soldering iron that kept dropping temperature on me until I finally bought a proper station. It's not always about the price tag, it's about saving your sanity when you're already deep in a tricky fault... I bet those sharp tips saved you from a real nightmare in that avionics bay.

Right, but is it really that serious? I get that good tools are nice, but $200 for probes feels like you're buying into a bit of a hype. Most of the time your old beat up ones probably would have worked just fine if you took a few extra minutes.

$200 for probes? lmao i almost choked on my coffee reading that. i've literally used the same $30 set from harbor freight for like 6 years and they're still going strong. one of them has a bent tip from me using it as a pry bar and it still works fine lol. i get wanting nice gear but that price tag is just insane to me.
