That $400 borescope I cheaped out on finally bit me

Bought a $400 borescope instead of the $900 one for checking fuel pump internals, and it crapped out mid inspection last week on a 737. The cheap one gave fuzzy video right before it died, so now I'm redoing the whole job with the good unit. Anyone else had budget tool purchases turn into double work?

You ever have one of those moments where you just stare at the broken tool and think, "well, that's on me"? My buddy Tom had a similar thing with a cheap torque wrench. He used it on a customer's car, it clicked way too early, and he ended up stripping a lug nut. Took him an extra hour to drill it out, plus he had to buy the nice wrench anyway. He still brings it up every time we talk about saving a buck, ha. Sometimes the extra money is really just buying you peace of mind, you know?

Buddy of mine bought a cheap digital caliper for his side work and it read .010 off, he ended up remachining an entire brake rotor before he caught it. That mistake cost him way more than the $60 he saved.
