Took me 3 plane swaps to admit that dielectric grease is a must

I used to think dielectric grease was just extra junk to wipe off later. Then I pulled a nav antenna off a Cessna 172 at KAPA that had corrosion all inside the connector. After cleaning it and putting fresh grease on, the signal came back clean on the first test. Has anyone else seen a big difference after using it on coax connectors?

Dielectric grease gets all the credit, but I'm not convinced it's that big of a deal for most jobs. A clean connection and proper torque usually do the heavy lifting. Corrosion in a nav antenna connector sounds more like a maintenance issue than a grease miracle.

Honestly, the part nobody talks about is how dielectric grease actually helps keep the connector from seizing up in the first place. I had a VOR antenna on an old Piper that I couldn't even unscrew because the threads were so corroded. After a full can of WD-40 and a lot of swearing, I got it off, greased the new one, and next time it came right apart with just my fingers. That saved me way more headaches than any signal improvement.
