Carbon offsets in our shipping deals feel like a cheap cop-out
Paying extra to feel green doesn't fix the root problem. We should push for actual fuel efficiency instead, lmao.

Understand that offsets and efficiency can complement each other. Pursuing both addresses emissions more completely than one alone.

Ever try to fix a leaky bucket before adding more water? @the_anthony is right about using both. First, seal up what you can - that's like adding insulation or fixing drafty windows to use less power. Then, for the leftover mess you can't avoid, that's where good offsets come in. It's basic math: cut your own waste first, pay to clean up the rest.

I mean what gets me is how offsets can let people feel okay about not changing habits at all. Like someone might keep their old gas guzzler and take three flights a year, but buy some cheap credits and call it even. Idk maybe we need way better standards so offsets are only for the truly unavoidable stuff, not just for convenience.

My buddy's company bought offsets for their shipping but their trucks still get terrible mileage. They just tacked on a green fee without changing a thing.
