Had a client ask me where my "real" prices were after I sent a quote

I do commercial cleaning for small offices around Austin, and last week I sent a quote to a guy who runs a dental practice. It was $450 a month for twice a week service, which I thought was fair for 2,000 square feet. He called me up and said "where are the real prices?" like I was hiding some secret lower number under the table. I told him that was it, no haggling, and he sighed and said he'd think about it. Two days later he hired me anyway but asked for a free deep clean on the first visit. I said no again and he finally agreed to my terms. Has anyone else had a client accuse them of quoting fake prices?

Did you try just holding firm and letting him walk?

@leo_76 called it, that's exactly the type. I had a guy last month try to haggle me down on a small painting job, wanted me to knock off $100 because he'd "give me more work later." Told him no thanks, price is firm, and walked. He called me back three days later at full price. Some people just need to hear the word no a few times before it sinks in.

Betting he's the type who negotiates with his dentist too.
