Just talked to a vendor at our office supply company about their software pricing

He flat out told me we could have saved $200 a month if we had asked for a different contract tier. Been paying for features we never use since January. Has anyone else had luck renegotiating mid-contract with office suppliers?

Oh man, that stings. Same thing happened to me with our cleaning supply vendor last year. We were locked into a premium plan with all these extras like inventory tracking and auto-reorder reports that nobody in the warehouse even opened. I called them up and basically told them we wanted to drop down to the basic tier, and they actually let us switch with no penalty. It saved us about $150 a month. The key was just being firm but nice about it, saying we couldn't justify the cost anymore. Did it take more than one phone call to get your contract adjusted?

Did you have to sweet talk them or just threaten to walk?

Read the fine print on your contract first. Some of these companies have automatic price increases built in. I got hit with a 12% hike after switching tiers. Didn't see it coming. Check that small text before you call.
