My accountant told me to cut all our software subscriptions to save money
He said we were bleeding cash on tools we didn't use, so last quarter I canceled our $150/month project management platform. It turned out our team relied on it way more than he realized, and communication broke down almost immediately. Has anyone else had a cost-cutting suggestion backfire because it didn't account for how a tool is actually used?

Had the same thing happen with our file sharing service. The bean counters saw a line item and axed it without asking anyone. We lost a month of work because people were saving files locally and then their laptops crashed. My fix was to make department heads do a simple "what breaks if we lose this" report before any cuts. It forces them to actually think about how stuff gets used day to day. Saved us from making that mistake again.

Love that fix. We started doing "sunset reviews" where the team that actually uses the tool has to sign off before we kill anything.
