Warning: That cheap CRM I installed last month cost me a client in Nashville

I was sitting in my home office on a Tuesday morning trying to pull up a client's contact history before a 10am call. The CRM I bought for $29 a month kept freezing every time I clicked on their account. I ended up guessing their last email date and sounded like an idiot on the call. The client told me they felt ignored and moved to a competitor. Has anyone else had a cheap tool blow up a real relationship like that?

Hold on, is nobody gonna push back on this? Maybe the CRM wasn't the real problem here. If a $29 a month tool freezing up cost you a whole client, it sounds like YOU didn't have a backup plan or any basic notes written down, @leehall. You could have pulled up a notebook or a spreadsheet in 30 seconds. I think blaming the cheap tool is an easy out. Sometimes being "cheap" actually forces you to be more organized and self-reliant.

Saved $29 a month and lost a client worth way more than that. Sounds like you paid the expensive price for being cheap. Hope that $29 CRM was worth losing a whole relationship.

Saved $29 a month and lost a client worth way more than that" - that line hits hard because it's not just about the money. I see this pattern everywhere now. People buy the cheapest lawnmower, and it breaks halfway through the summer, so they spend more on repairs than a decent one would've cost. Or they get discount tires that wear out in a year and then wonder why they're back at the shop. Sometimes the real price of cheap tools isn't the dollar amount, it's the trust you lose when they fail you at the worst possible moment. Did you end up switching to something more reliable after that Nashville mess?
