John_Fisher said to trust your GPS, and I used to feel the same way. But last fall my GPS tried to send me down a washed-out forest road that didn't exist anymore. I had to pull out my paper map and find a landmark to reorient myself. Now I always carry a backup map.
Yeah, I got burned by that once too. My GPS tried to make me turn onto a road that was just gone, washed away. Now I keep an old atlas in the trunk just in case.
