Pro tip: check the actual permit numbers for the Enchantments before you plan a trip

Honestly, I was looking at the Forest Service site last night to plan a late August trip. The core Enchantments zone only allows 24 overnight permits per day for the entire lottery. I always thought it was way more than that. It explains why the lottery odds are so brutal every year. Has anyone actually snagged a permit recently, or are you all just doing the walk-up thing?

Try winning that lottery, I dare you. My buddy got one last year and we still treat him like a unicorn. Honestly, just plan on the walk-up pain or pick a different spot lol.

Actually got a core permit two years ago through the lottery. It can happen, you just have to apply for every single day you're available in the season. The walk-up system is a total circus now too, with people lining up for days. Feels like you need pure luck or to be okay with sleeping in your car at the ranger station.
