Two nights on the Superior Hiking Trail and my stove died at mile 34
Last fall I did a 40 mile section near Duluth and on day two my canister stove just stopped putting out flame around 6pm. I had rice and seasoning packs that needed boiling water, so I ended up cold soaking everything in a creek for 20 minutes, which tasted awful but worked. The next morning I found the valve was clogged with some gunk from a cheap fuel can, so I spent an hour cleaning it with a pine needle. Has anyone else had a stove fail mid trip and what's your backup plan that actually fits in a 35 liter pack?

Cold soaking saves weight, just skip the stove entirely next time.
