Cheap paver sand trick saved my patio from sinking

Built a 12x16 paver patio last spring and after one freeze it was already shifting like crazy. I tried that polymeric sand the big box stores push but it cracked out in weeks. Anyone else switch to a mix of play sand and concrete powder for their joints?

Did you mix it dry and let rain activate it or did you wet it yourself after sweeping it in?

Yeah that whole process can be a real headache. I feel for you @emeryj66 because I did the dry mix and rain method last spring and it was a mess waiting for enough rain to actually soak in. After a few tries I found it works way better to sweep it in dry and then wet it yourself with a hose so you can control how much water hits each spot. Have you tried it with a spray nozzle to get an even soak without washing it all away?
