Hid a spare key in my shed build and hid it so good I can't find it 6 months later
Built a 10x12 shed in my backyard last spring and got the bright idea to hide a spare key under a loose floorboard near the back corner. Six months later I'm locked out at 9pm and I've pulled up half the floor without finding it. How do you guys stash spares without losing them forever?
Just so you know, a loose floorboard is probably the worst spot you could pick since it's the first place a thief would check anyway. Hiding spots work best when they're somewhere nobody would ever think to look, not under the obvious loose piece of wood. Honestly you'd be better off with something like a fake rock in the yard or a key hanging on a nail inside the shed wall itself, somewhere you'd actually stumble on it. Tbh the real trick is picking a spot and then telling exactly one person or writing it down somewhere safe so future you isn't digging up the whole floor at 9pm. Six months is nothing, people forget stuff in a week, so the hiding part matters less than the remembering part. Ngl I'd just buy a key lockbox and bolt it to the shed frame, way less guessing.
