Neighbor's 'help' with my pergola ended in a 3-day rebuild

My neighbor Dave came over last Saturday waving a cordless drill and said he'd 'fix' my sagging crossbeam on the pergola I built in June. He bolted a 2x4 straight onto the post without checking the level, and by Sunday the whole top rack was twisted like a pretzel. Took me 3 extra days to tear it down, re-square everything, and brace it properly with 4 inch lag screws. Has anyone else had a well-meaning helper actually make a backyard build worse, or is it just my luck with Dave?

Dave probably thought he was 'helping' but really he was just speed-running your pergola into a demolition derby. At least now you know his drill is only good for stirring paint, not structural engineering.
