Update: my $85 plastic shed base kit held up through 3 winters in Duluth and I'd buy it again
Everyone on here says you have to pour a concrete pad or your shed will heave and crack, but I laid that cheap interlocking grid kit over 4 inches of packed class 5 gravel back in October and it hasn't moved. We got 89 inches of snow last winter and the floor is still dead level, no frost heave at the corners. What is the actual failure point people are worried about with these, because my neighbor keeps telling me I got lucky?
Your neighbor probably just wants you to spend 3 grand on concrete so he feels better about his own pad, ha. The real weak spot with these kits isn't heave, it's the edges. If water pools along the border or the gravel wasn't packed right, the grid can spread and the sides bow out over time. Four inches of packed class 5 is doing the heavy lifting there, so honestly you built it right and he's just mad about it.
