Appreciation post: I finally watched 'The Room' and I have to say, I don't get the hype.

My book club in Tacoma picked it for our monthly movie night last Thursday. We watched the whole thing, from the awkward flower shop scene to the endless football tossing. Everyone else was laughing and quoting lines, but I just found it sad and boring. The story makes no sense, the acting is flat, and it felt like three hours long. Has anyone else seen a 'so bad it's good' movie that just didn't click for them?

Watched it with my brother and felt the same way. Sometimes the joke is just people laughing because they think they're supposed to.

Nah, people just get the vibe live. You had to be there. Laughing with a crowd hits different than watching alone. Your brother probably felt it too, ivan_murphy80. The energy in the room makes basic stuff funnier. It's not fake, it's a shared moment. Comedians build that feeling on purpose.

I saw that special and counted maybe three actual jokes in the whole hour. The rest was just the audience howling at basic observations. It makes you wonder if people are just scared to sit in silence, so they laugh to fill the room. Maybe we all just want to feel like we're part of the group. But yeah, it's not that deep, it's just a bit of a weird social habit.
