My buddy insisted we watch 'The Room' for his birthday last weekend
I had heard about it for years but never actually sat through it. We got together at his apartment in Chicago with six people and a bottle of cheap whiskey. By the time we hit the third weirdly placed sex scene, everyone was laughing so hard we missed half the dialogue. The rooftop football toss with zero context still has me confused. For a movie that tries so hard to be serious, it's probably the most fun I've had at a screening all year. Has anyone else found a bad movie that accidentally became your go to for parties?

My friend Gary once made us watch "Troll 2" at a New Year's party and I swear we replayed the "They're eating her" dinner scene at least five times. The acting was so awful but the whole room was in tears laughing by the end. It's been our go to bad movie pick for any gathering since then.

Honestly, I used to roll my eyes whenever people talked about enjoying "so bad it's good" movies. I thought it was just a pretentious way to laugh at something poorly made. But then a buddy of mine forced me to sit through Troll 2 during a game night last year and man, I was wrong. That dinner scene you mentioned, with the popcorn and the "They're eating her!" line, had me crying so hard I couldn't breathe. It completely changed how I look at bad movies. Now I get it, it's not about the movie being terrible, it's about the shared experience of laughing at something so absurd together.

My buddy Mark actually runs a bad movie night every month and we've got a rule now. First timer picks the next movie after their first watch. I ended up choosing "The Room" after my Troll 2 initiation. Now we've got a whole rotation going, three years strong. The key is not to force it on people who aren't ready, just let them discover the magic naturally. A six pack and a willing audience is all you really need.
