My buddy swore I'd love The Room if I watched it with a group
He kept telling me to invite like 8 people over and bring plastic spoons. I thought it was just some overhyped mess, but after the third random football scene and that rooftop breakup, the whole room was howling. We went through 4 bags of spoons before the credits rolled. Has anyone else had a terrible movie actually become hilarious because of the right crowd?

The leather jacket thing is wild, I read he bought them from a guy in a van behind a strip mall. That whole alley fight is like 30 seconds of guys slapping each other with their jackets flapping everywhere. My buddy timed it once, there's like 45 seconds straight of football throwing with zero context. By the time the spoon throwing started, someone in my group yelled "quarterback" every time he tossed that pigskin. The whole crowd melted into laughter, best night of bad movie watching I ever had.

Yo hold up, I gotta disagree hard on the spoon throwing being the peak moment. That football throwing sequence is legitimately mesmerizing though, like watching a car crash in slow motion. Tommy just hucking that ball back and forth with that dead stare, no idea why it's happening or where it's going. I've seen it ten times and I still can't figure out the pacing or purpose of it. The spoon thing is funny but it's low hanging fruit, everyone expects it now. Nah man, the real magic is that inexplicable football scene that goes on way too long for no reason.

Read somewhere that Tommy Wiseau actually financed the whole thing with money from selling knockoff leather jackets. Makes total sense when you watch that alley fight scene where they're all wearing the same weird outfits. The spoon thing is legendary though. Every terrible line lands harder when everyone's already amped up and chucking plasticware at the screen.
