My husband and I watched 'The Room' last month and then again last night, and the second time we actually started to appreciate the bizarre sincerity of it all.
The first viewing left us baffled, but after reading about Tommy Wiseau's genuine, if misguided, passion for the project, we spent last night laughing with the film instead of at it, and I'm curious if anyone else has had a movie 'click' on a rewatch like that?

And the way he just kept the same background extras in every scene cracks me up every single time.

The Room is the only movie I've ever seen that gets funnier the more you learn about it. Tommy Wiseau's total lack of self-awareness is the secret ingredient. It turns a bad movie into a perfect comedy.

Totally agree about that weird magic. I watched the behind the scenes stuff and learning he bought the camera instead of renting it, just to own it, made every awkward line even better. His complete belief in his own vision is what makes it a classic.

That bit about his lack of self awareness is interesting, but I don't know if it's totally right. I've read a few interviews where he seems to know the movie is seen as funny, not serious. He just doesn't care. He wanted to make his movie his way, and he did. The belief in his vision is real, but I'm not sure he's as unaware as people think. He just has his own rules for what makes a good story.
