Sat through The Room with a friend last night and it finally clicked why I've been hating on bad movies wrong the whole time

I used to just laugh at the terrible acting and plot holes, but my buddy pointed out Tommy Wiseau's total lack of self-awareness is what makes it gold, and now I'm wondering if I've been missing the whole point - has anyone else had a viewing buddy totally flip your take on a movie like that?

Wait, your buddy actually dropped that truth bomb about the lack of self-awareness? Because that's exactly what flipped my whole view on The Room too, I was just laughing at the bad green screen before someone pointed out that Tommy genuinely thinks he's making a serious drama. It's weird how one little comment can totally change how you watch a trainwreck like that.

Wait, he actually admitted he thought it was a serious drama? No way.

Wait, does that mean my emotional reaction to The Room was also a lie?
