Serious question, did anyone else watch 'The Room' for the first time after hearing the hype?

I finally sat down with some friends in Seattle to watch it after years of people saying it was the best worst movie. We were laughing at the weird line readings and random football scenes, but then the tone just got so sad and strange. It was not at all what I expected from a 'funny bad' movie night. What's another movie that's famous for being bad but actually made you feel something else?

Felt the exact same way about "The Room." That third act with Lisa's lies and Johnny's breakdown is just brutal. It stops being funny and feels like watching a real, sad person fall apart. For me, "Birdemic" was like that. The terrible effects are hilarious, but the guy's panic about climate change and trying to protect his girlfriend gave it a weirdly sweet, earnest heart.

Wasn't Birdemic's guy actually trying to save his ex-girlfriend, not his current one?

My friend Dave watched Birdemic last year and got weirdly into the plot. He kept texting me about the main guy's whole mission to drive across town, like it was some big heroic quest. Aaron_perry is right about that earnest heart, you know? Dave actually got mad when we laughed at the bad CGI birds, saying the guy just wanted to warn his ex about the eco-disaster. It turned a joke movie into this sad, sweet thing for him.
