My apartment dishes went from a 2 day pileup to almost zero, and one $6 thing did it
Two years ago our sink was full every single night, and by Sunday there were like 14 cups stacked up and somebody's chili bowl from Thursday still soaking. My roommate moved out in March and the new guy brought a small drying rack with a little tray under it, that's the only difference in the whole kitchen. Turns out when there's a spot to put one clean plate, people just wash the one plate instead of waiting for a full load. Six months in and I've scrubbed maybe three big piles total. Is it the rack or did I just get lucky with who moved in?
Man, I always figured dish piles were just about laziness and that a rack would not change anything. But you're right, having a spot for one clean plate makes it easy to just wash the one you used instead of letting it stack up. I'd say give it a couple more months, but the rack probably deserves more credit than your new roommate.
