Can we talk about the $17 bench scraper that survived my dishwasher but my $200 mixer didn't?
Last Tuesday I was scraping down my work table after a big rye batch when my bench scraper slipped out of my hand and landed blade down right on my foot. It didn't even leave a mark, but it did remind me that I dropped $17 on that thing at a restaurant supply store in Portland two years back and it's still going strong. Meanwhile my $200 stand mixer burned out its motor three weeks ago during a stiff levain and now it's just a very heavy paperweight on my counter. I keep staring at that scraper like it owes me an apology for outlasting the expensive stuff. Has anyone else had a cheap tool outlive a pricey one in their kitchen?
