Just realized I spent $120 on a fancy silicone baking mat that started peeling after 3 months

My grandma’s old parchment paper never let me down for 40 years and now I’m back to buying the cheap stuff at the grocery store, anyone else ditch the fancy tools for the basics?

Grandma's parchment paper is probably still in better shape than my credit card after that purchase. Silicon baking mats are like that friend who promises to help you move but shows up with one hand and leaves early. Learned my lesson too, the dollar store basics hold up better than something that costs more than my weekly grocery run.

Oh man you're speaking my language... I bought a fancy silicon mat that was supposed to be non-stick and it stuck worse than my old dollar store parchment. Ended up scrubbing melted cookie residue off it for twenty minutes and just threw it in the trash. The plain old waxed paper from the corner store never let me down like that.

Eh @reese_hayes71 you kind of got one thing backwards though. Silicon mats actually last way longer than parchment if you treat them right. Parchment gets brittle after one or two bakes, silicon can go years. The real problem is people buying those flimsy cheap mats that curl up and slide around. Got a $8 one from Target that's been solid for three years now. Dollar store stuff is fine for parchment rolls but those mats they sell fall apart fast.
