Tried a glass bowl for my sourdough starter, never going back to plastic
I kept fighting plastic containers because the starter always dried out around the lid and got crusty, so last month I switched to a wide glass mason jar with a cloth cover. The moisture stays even and I can actually see the bubbles from the side now, which helps me catch it before it overferments. Has anyone else had better luck with glass over plastic for their starter?
Glass mason jar with a cloth cover sounds nice and all, but it's still just a jar. I've kept my starter in a plastic deli container for like two years and the crusty lid thing only happens if I forget to burp it. You're acting like seeing bubbles from the side is some kind of magic trick. I can just open the lid and look, takes two seconds. And honestly, overfermentation is more about your feeding schedule than what container you use. Did the glass actually fix anything, or did you just get more into a routine?
