I actually prefer when my cake falls flat on purpose now

Made a vanilla pound cake last Saturday for my neighbor's potluck and the middle collapsed into a crater. Everyone said it was a fail but I just filled it with homemade whipped cream and strawberries. The texture was way better than the tall dry cakes I usually make. Has anyone else had a flat cake turn into something better or am I just making excuses for my mistake?

Saw a baking blog say sunken cakes are actually the new trend, lol.

Yeah, "sunken cakes are actually the new trend"... reminds me of the time my aunt tried to make a souffle and it collapsed into this sad little pancake. She called it a "rustic desert" and served it with extra whipped cream like nothing happened. Everyone at the table was just nodding along, trying not to laugh.

It's "dessert" not "desert" @ray_williams, but yeah that rustic pancake move is a classic.
