I always thought boxed cake mix was fine until I made a real one from scratch

I compared a standard Betty Crocker yellow cake to one I made using the recipe on the back of the King Arthur flour bag. The scratch cake was SO much better, it was softer and had a real vanilla taste, not that fake sweetness. I'm never going back to the box. Has anyone else had a similar win with a specific recipe they can share?

Honestly, I get where you're coming from, but I have the opposite take. For a basic weekday cake, the box mix is a total win. The scratch cake is better, sure, but it's also way more work and dirty dishes for something my family just eats after dinner. The box is cheap, fast, and always turns out the same. My time is worth something too.

Totally agree with you on this. I tried the whole from scratch thing for a while and the sink full of bowls just killed me. Ngl, the box mix tastes just fine when you're tired on a Wednesday and the kids want something sweet. My time is definitely worth more than the tiny bit of extra flavor.

Right? My sink looks like a bowl crime scene, so @the_tessa and I are on team box mix for life.
