My cookies finally stopped spreading into pancakes after I read one sentence about chilling the dough

I've been baking chocolate chip cookies for like 6 years now and they always came out flat and greasy no matter what I did. Last week I was scrolling through a random baking blog at 2am because I couldn't sleep and the lady wrote 'if your dough is warm, your butter melts before the flour can set.' That was it. I stuck my batch in the fridge for just 45 minutes before baking and they came out thick and chewy for the first time ever. Has anyone else had a dumb simple fix like this that took you way too long to figure out?

Start chilling your mixing bowl and flour too, keeps everything cold enough to handle.

So did you start temping your butter or just let it sit out less?
