Showerthought: my sourdough starter taught me to chill out

I got super strict about feeding my starter at the same exact minute every day, like clockwork. Last week I was out for a whole afternoon and came back to it looking flat, so I just gave it a big feed and left it. Woke up to the bubbliest, happiest starter I've ever had. Turns out a little neglect is sometimes what it needs. Anyone else find their baking gets better when they stop micromanaging?

Wow, I needed to hear that today, honestly.

Same thing happened with my basil. A little neglect made it way more hardy.

My garden is the same way. I used to water my tomatoes on a strict schedule, rain or shine. They got all droopy and sad. One week I got busy and just let them be. They got a bit dry, then we had a good rain. They came back stronger than ever, with the best fruit that summer.
